We would like to announce that Dr. Victor Vilarrasa of the Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research, Spanish National Research Council (IDAEA-CSIC), Barcelona, Spain, has been selected to receive the 2020 Chin-Fu Tsang Coupled Processes Award.
The selection has been made out of a group of eleven outstanding nominees from Australia, Canada, China, Japan, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK and USA. The nominees are limited to those with eight years or less of professional experience after their Ph.D. degree. An initial assessment was made by the CouFrac organization committee, and then all eleven files with the initial assessment were forwarded to members of the CouFrac International Scientific Advisory Committee (ISAC) for their evaluation. The ISAC members then provided their selection of three top candidates with ranking. The results were combined to arrive at the final selection.
The final selection was not so obvious because there are so many very strong nominees. The strength of the applications proves that the field of "coupled processes" is very strong and thriving, and shows that establishing this award in 2018 was a timely decision. As the travel is not likely to be possible, the winner will be awarded the plaque and cash prize $1,000.
Dr. Victor Vilarrasa will deliver the award lecture during CouFrac2020 titled
“A journey from investigating anisotropic transport evolution in a rough fracture undergoing shear to predicting injection-induced seismicity”.
